End of Summer Vehicle Maintenance Tips

The summer is officially over and the fall season has begun, bringing in changing leaves, chilly weather, and spooky celebrations to come. The summer is notorious for excessive driving, which can take a toll on our vehicles. After the summer, it is important to address any damage done and have your vehicle restored before the fall season weather truly begins. Before the rainy season starts, take the time to read through our list of end of summer maintenance tips to make sure that your vehicle is ready to take on the upcoming colder months.

Check your windshield wipers

Windshield wipers are crucial for the upcoming rainy seasons and should be in good condition at all times. Wipers should be replaced once a year, so if it has been a while since your last replacement, your car is due for new wipers. Worn out wipers can be dangerous when you’re hit with unexpected rain while driving and can severely impair your ability to clearly see the road.

Inspect your tires for tread

Take a look at your tires - how does the tread look? Do the top of the tires look nice and rigid, or do they look bald and smooth? Tires that are smoothed down and lacking tread become dangerous for driving, especially in the rain where the tread is essential. If you’re unsure if your tires are safe, have the experts here at A-1 Auto Repair take a look. Any tires that have uneven wear or have very low tread should be replaced before the fall season.

A quick check of your vehicle’s headlights and other exterior lights are a good measure to take before the fall comes around. The days will start to become shorter and you will find yourself driving in darker skies more often. Be sure that your headlights are bright and clear and that your blinkers and brake lights are all working properly.

Heater and defroster

A thorough inspection of your vehicle’s heating and defrosting system is important when it comes to preparing for colder months. Your vehicle’s heating system will help make your vehicle comfortable while driving and the defroster will be necessary to have a clear view of the road. A HVAC system inspection by your local auto mechanic will give you peace of mind that all is in working order.

Fuel and air filter replacement

When we drive during the summer, our vehicle’s air filters tend to get dirtier with more use of our vehicles and the warmer weather. Before the fall and winter seasons, it is important to take a look at your fuel and air filters and replace them if needed.

Vehicle inspection

A proper vehicle inspection performed by your local trusted mechanic is always a great way to get your vehicle in shape for fall. They will complete a full inspection of your vehicle and determine any issues that may need to be addressed before riding into the next season.

We hope that these end of summer maintenance tips will be helpful in making sure that you and your family stay safe on the road this upcoming fall season. If you're due for any of the fall maintenance items listed above, we invite you into A-1 Auto Repair today!
